Louis Smith wins Strictly Come Dancing
Olympic gymnast Louis Smith has won Strictly Come Dancing 2012
Smith and his professional dancing partner Flavia Cacace had been the hot favourites to win the dancing competition after high scores and praise from the judges week after week.
“After an electrifying night in the ballroom, Louis Smith & Flavia Cacace lifted the coveted glitterball trophy in the Strictly Come Dancing 2012 live grand finale.” The BBC Strictly press officer says merrily, adding, “Broadcasting for the final time from its home for ten series, TC1 in BBC Television Centre, each of the four finalists – Louis Smith, Dani Harmer, Denise Van Outen, and Kimberley Walsh – took to the dancefloor in a bid to impress the viewers at home, and win their votes.”
In the first of two live shows each couple took to the dance floor and performed a routine which the judges picked from their previous performances, and then they returned to the floor to perform their no rules, no-holds-barred show dance.
Kimberley & Pasha had the Judges Choice of the Viennese Waltz to A Thousand Years by Christina Perri while their Show dance was to Crazy in Love by Beyoncé
Denise & James performed a Jive to Tutti Frutti by Little Richard as the Judges Choice while their Show dance was to What A Feeling by Irene Cara
Dani & Vincent had the Judges Choice of a Tango to Rumour Has It by Adele while they performed to Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen as their Show dance
Louis & Flavia’s Judges Choice was a Salsa to (I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes with the Show dance to Rule The World by Take That
At the start of the live result show, the couple with the lowest number of votes, Dani Harmer and her partner Vincent Simone, was eliminated from the competition, leaving Denise & James, Kimberley & Pasha and Louis & Flavia to fight it out for the title.
The remaining three then performed their own favourite routine from the series with Kimberley & Pasha’s favourite Dance being a Tango to When Doves Cry by Prince.
Denise & James opted for a Charleston to Walk Like an Egyptian by The Puppini Sisters and Louis & Flavia took to the floor with a Charleston to Dr Wanna Do by Caro Emerald.
“Louis & Flavia were revealed to have scored the highest number of public votes and were duly crowned 2012 Strictly Come Dancing champion.” The BBC SCD press officer adds.
As usual with the final judges Len Goodman, Darcey Bussell, Bruno Tonioli and Craig Revel Horwood were on hand to lend their trademark critiques, but their scores were only a guide, and the result was 100% only based on the votes of the viewers at home.
23-year-old Louis won a bronze medal as part of a team and a silver medal for individual pommel horse event at this years London Olympics.
