Miranda achieves new highs with Christmas special

Comedy ruled on Boxing Day as millions tune in for Miranda and Mrs Brown’s Boys specials.

At 9.00pm, Miranda began its new series with a Christmas special averaging 9.5 million viewers on BBC One. The award winning comedy began life on BBC Two before winning a promotion earlier this year.

Miranda was followed by the second episode of Mrs Brown’s Boys special, which seen Agnes Brown stage her own nativity play. It averaged just under 9 million viewers at 9.30pm.

The BBC comedy hour comfortably beat ITV1 drama Doors Open which managed 2.2 million across 2 hours from 9.00pm. Prior to the comedy-drama, That Dog Can Dance averaged 3.7 million viewers as Sharon Osborne judged dancing dogs.
