Comedies Bring Big Ratings To BBC One On New Year’s Day

Mrs Brown's BoysBBC One comedies Mrs Brown’s Boys and Miranda delivered big ratings to the channel on New Years Day according to overnight ratings.

The move from BBC Two to BBC One looks like it has been a success for sitcom Miranda. The third season of the comedy starring Miranda Hart pulled in an impressive 9 million viewers on Tuesday evening. Miranda made the move to BBC One formally on Boxing Day with the Christmas Special pulling in 9.5 million viewers in overnight figures.

The third season opener of Mrs Brown’s Boys – following the two-part Christmas Special last week on BBC One – also delivered some hefty ratings last night. The critics might not love it but it seems audiences are still in love with Agnes Brown (Brendan O’Carroll) and her dysfunctional family as 8.1 million viewers tuned in at 9.30 last night.
