Doctor Who Festive Special A Hit In America

Doctor Who’s Christmas Special was a hit for BBC America.

The Snowmen, broadcast on Christmas Day on the beeb’s American channel, was a hit with audiences stateside. According to the broadcaster the festive Doctor Who special was seen by an impressive 1.4 million viewers. That’s just shy of the figure who tuned in for the seventh season opener Asylum of the Daleks and is further proof that Doctor Who is becoming increasing popular with American audiences.

The Snowmen marked the return of Jenna Louise Coleman as Carla/Oswin the Doctor’s (Matt Smith) new companion. The character was first seen by audiences in Asylum of the Daleks but was seemingly killed off at the story’s conclusion. The mystery surrounding Clara looks set to be the new “soft” story-arc for the remaining seven episodes of this season. The Christmas special guest-starred Richard E Grant and Sir Ian McKellen lent his vocal talents to the production.

In the UK final ratings figures for The Snowmen reveal it was seen by nearly 10 million viewers making it the fourth most watched programme of Christmas Day. Find out more here >>
