Splash! launches with over 5 million viewers

ITV’s new Saturday entertainment series Splash! kicked off with over 5 million viewers but how many will return next week?

Celebrity diving series Splash! made a decent start on Saturday evening as it comfortably beat the competition on BBC One in the form of Britain’s Brightest which was presented by Clare Balding.

Splash! had an average audience of 5.4 million viewers while over on BBC One, Balding’s new game-show attracted 4.8 million viewers.

Splash! may have debuted decently in the ratings but the critics were far from enthralled with hosts Vernon Kay and Gabby Logan coming in for some stick as well as the show’s simple format. The series features Olympian Tom Daley coaching celebrities such as Joey Essex, Caprice, Tina Malone and (first to be voted out) Hollyoaks actress Jennifer Metcalfe in his sport.

Following Splash! on ITV was dating game-show Take Me Out which mustered 4.2 million viewers while chat-show The Jonathan Ross Show returned for a new series with 2.8 million viewers.

BBC One’s lottery show In It To Win It, hosted by Dale Winton, had 5.1 million viewers while medical drama Casualty had a strong outing with 5.17 million viewers. A repeat of Mrs Brown’s Boys had 4.1 million viewers; the first originally aired on Tuesday evening on BBC One.
