Billy Connolly is ‘surprised he’s not gay’ due to ‘nightmare women’
The Big Yin spoke recently to the BBC’s Review Show where he revealed he probably should be gay after bad encounters with females.
The comedian, singer and actor told presenter Kirsty Wark about his early years which are best described as a ‘difficult upbringing’.
The interview to mark Billy Connolly’s 70th birthday saw the star reveal that “it’s astonishing I’m not gay, the women in my life are nightmares”.
He added that he covered up the reality of his childhood in comedy routines because he “always thought it made me kind of special” adding that back in the 1970s and 80s “it wasn’t the time to talk about things like that. Not like now.”
On his Aunt Mona, who it was revealed regularly humiliated him by rubbing his underpants in his face, he described her as “it was like living with Tony Perkins [of Psycho] for Christ sake.”
“Yes she would just humiliate me everyday.” Recalling also that “She had a biscuit barrel, and you went for a biscut and you’d find a note which said ‘thief’.
Of another woman from his early years he recalled “I had a teacher Rosie MacDonald who was a bit of a psychopath.”
Connolly has been married to New Zealand born comedian, actress and now clinical psychologist Pamela Stephenson since 1989.
Blimey he had some nasty relations.
