False Twin Peaks Rumours To Help Revival Efforts?

Last week news broke that NBC was interested in reviving cult soap Twin Peaks but although those rumours were untrue it seems as though they may actually lead to something.

The news that David Lynch had reportedly met with NBC about reviving his short-lived 1990s soap was picked up by various news organisations including ATV Today. One week later it seems as though those rumours were sadly untrue however Twin Peaks fans shouldn’t lose hope – because actually the stories may have done some good.

NBC president Jennifer Salke discussed the reports in an interview with IGN and revealed some good has come of the stories.

“I called everybody when I got the email. None of us had gotten a call about that, not from an agent, not from the writer, not the head of drama… so we’re wondering the same thing you are… When it came up we all looked at each other and said, ‘That’s a good idea.’ We were all kind of like, ‘Hmm, we like Twin Peaks!’ So, I’ll send some emails today, and see what I can get to come in.”

Twin Peaks originally aired on ABC for two seasons starting in 1990 with its original storyline following FBI agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) investigating the murder of local girl Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee). The quirky drama was a huge hit for ABC and won critical acclaim but when the second season revealed just whom the murderer was ratings quickly dropped as storylines became increasingly bizarre.

Twin Peaks was cancelled by ABC but David Lynch did produce a prequel movie, Fire Walk With Me, which sadly was not a Box Office hit. The reports last week claimed NBC were interested in ordering a third season which would pick up the storylines 25 years on. With NBC seemingly genuinely interested perhaps Twin Peaks could return after all.
