NBC Renews Days Of Our Lives
NBC has renewed its last remaining daytime soap opera Days of our Lives.
The renewal will be welcome news to fans of the Salem set soap who perhaps feared the time was running out for the series. However, earlier this week NBC chief Robert Greenblatt gave very strong hints that the soap would continue for some time on the network and now its been officially confirmed!
“We are thrilled to announce that Days is not going anywhere. It is NBC’s longest-running drama series by far and is one of the most historic brands in television. We commend Ken Corday and the entire creative team on continuing to keep the stories and characters fresh, exciting and relevant year after year.” – Jennifer Salke, NBC entertainment president
“After so many years in the homes and hearts of our loyal fans, I’m both humbled and elated to say it’s 2013 and we’re still going strong. I am equally proud that the sense of family which my mom and dad established in our show 48 years ago, is still what drives it today. As we celebrate our 12,000th episode with an amazing cast and great support from our network, we look forward to what’s yet to come!” – Ken Corday, executive producer
The renewal by NBC means that Days will continue to air until at least September 2014 which isn’t bad considering some within the network were predicting the soap wouldn’t air “beyond 2009”. 2014 will be the soaps 48th on-air so no doubt fans will be hoping for an early anniversary present next year with another renewal to take the series through to its 50th.
Days is currently the lowest rated of the four remaining soaps on-air in America but it has improved its ratings over the past few months.
