Ratings Rise For Vampire Diaries Return
The Vampire Diaries returned from its mid-season break on Thursday evening with ratings rise slightly.
The supernatural drama returned after a month off air with the episode After School which saw original vampire Rebekah (Claire Holt) decide to catch up on events in Mystic Falls with a little bit of torture. The episode pulled in 2.9 million viewers with a 1.4 18-49 rating at 8pm on The CW; that’s slightly up on the 2.8 who watched the mid-season finale O Come, All Ye Faithful.
Elsewhere last night American Idol lost viewers promoting some to wonder if audiences haven’t taken to new judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj. The Fox ratings titan drew 16.1 million viewers with a 5.6 18-49 rating between 8pm and 10pm last night. American Idol kicked off its 12th season on Wednesday evening with 17.9 million viewers and a 6.0 18-49 rating; so a noticeable drop. A repeat of The Big Bang Theory on CBS still commanded hefty audiences; 11.9 million viewers with a 3.3 rating followed by a repeat of Two and a Half Men with 9.1 million viewers and a 2.4 18-49 rating. 30 Rock on NBC had 3.5 million viewers with a 1.3 rating followed by Parks and Recreation which was seen by 3.8 million viewers and a 1.9 18-49 rating. ABC drama Last Resort rounded off the hour with 5 million viewers and a 1.0 rating.
At 9pm ABC’s medical drama Grey’s Anatomy mustered 8.7 million viewers with a 2.9 18-49 rating. The Office on NBC meanwhile had 4.1 million viewers with a 2.1 rating followed by 1600 Penn which had 3 million viewers and a 1.2 rating. The CW decided to repeat Sex and the City prequel The Carrie Diaries again; the series premiered on Monday at 8pm and was then repeated at 9pm! Thursday evening’s repeat was seen by 1.1 million viewers with a 0.5 rating. CBS also opted for a repeat at 9pm with Person of Interest attracting 9.3 million viewers with a 1.6 rating.
At 10pm Shonda Rhimes’ political drama Scandal, which recently incurred the wrath of the Parents Television Council, pulled in 8 million viewers scoring a 2.6 rating. CBS repeated its Sherlock Holmes drama Elementary, starring Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu, which had 7 million viewers and a 1.4 rating.
