Call The Midwife returns to BBC One with over 9.3 million viewers

Call-the-MidwifePeriod medical drama Call The Midwife returned to BBC One on Sunday with a huge 9.3 million viewers.

The second series aired at 8.00pm attracting a 32% audience share. The hit drama, now seen as the main rival to ITVs Downton Abbey, stars Jenny Agutter, Miranda Hart and Pam Ferris among others. The return follows a successful Christmas special which attracted over 11 million viewers on Christmas Day.

Over on ITV, Mr Selfridge continued its run at 9.00pm with 5.4 million viewers and a 20% audience share. Earlier at 8.30pm, the Dancing on Ice results show managed 5.3 million viewers, who witnessed professional skater Mark Hanretty fell and hurt his shoulder as he and Baroness Oona King were making their way for the skate-off.

Celebrity Big Brother at 9.00pm on Channel 5 continued to perform well with 2.2 million viewers. The episode featured the house see and hear Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt talk about how they truly feel about their fellow housemates.
