Sun on Sunday continues to fall in sales but remains on top

The Sun on Sunday has dropped below 2 million sales for the first time in December but continues to be the best selling newspaper on Sunday.

The Murdoch newspaper, which was launched in the wake of the News of the World scandal, has a current circulation of 1,886,739 according to the latest figures Audit Bureau of Circulation. It is down month-on-month by 6.1%.

It remains ahead of its main rival, the Mail on Sunday, which is also down month-on-month to 1,886,739 circulation. The Mail on Sunday launched an advertising blitz along with many other established Sunday papers last year when Murdoch launched the Sun on Sunday.

News of the World was shut down by Rupert Murdoch following the phone-hacking scandal which rocked the company in 2011.
