Rupert Murdoch apologises over Sunday Times cartoon

Rupert Murdoch has apologised following a cartoon depicting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu building a wall with body parts of Palestinians.

The cartoon, which was drawn by Gerald Scarfe, appeared in the Sunday Times on the same day as the Holocaust Memorial Day. It has led to some to accuse the newspaper of anti-Semitism.

Murdoch, who oversees the newspaper, tweeted his apology for the “grotesque” cartoon. “Gerald Scarfe has never reflected the opinions of the Sunday Times. Nevertheless, we owe major apology for grotesque, offensive cartoon.”

The Sunday Times defended the cartoon by insisting that it was aimed at the Prime Minister and not at the people of Israel.
