French MPs Kiss in Support of LGBT marriage equality
Two straight male French MPs have shared a snog at a LGBT rally to show their support for same sex unions.
The French are a little more ‘kissy’ than us Brits anyway, but the photograph shows Socialist MPs Yann Galut and Nicolas Bays giving each other a peck on the lips.
Galut said, Gay Star News reports, “We’re both straight, we’re both married with children. But today with the kiss of solidarity, it meant we, as parliamentary members who start fighting for same-sex marriage legislation in two days, we stand in solidarity with homosexuals.”
The kiss took place at the Marriage for All events which saw a quarter of a million people marching across the country to show their solidarity with gay rights activists.
The French National Assembly have begun to debate their equality bill today, with the legislation – if approved – giving gay couples the right to adopt children and marry.
The Gault and Bays kiss has been met with a mixed reaction from fellow Members of Parliament. Some have shown distaste describing the ‘stunt’ as “ridiculous” and “provocative” while others have backed the kiss calling the pair “heroes”.
