BBC Announces Cast For Doctor Who Docudrama

The BBC has announced the cast for An Adventure in Space and Time; its docudrama on the creation of Doctor Who to mark the sci-fi’s 50th anniversary.

A Family At War actor David Bradley will play William Hartnell in the docudrama. Actor Hartnell was cast as the Doctor in Doctor Who despite being more familiar to audiences for his roes as Army Sergeants/Captains in various films such as Carry On Sergeant.

Actor David Bradley has a long and varied career including playing Argus Filch in the Harry Potter series of films. The actor’s other roles include True Dare Kiss, Our Friends in the North, Vanity Fair, Blackpool and Prisoners’ Wives. Bradley played the character Solomon in last year’s Doctor Who story Dinosaurs on a Spaceship and lent his vocal talents to spin-off series The Sarah Jane Adventures for the two-part Death of the Doctor.

The BBC’s Head of Drama, Canadian Sydney Newman, will be played by Brian Cox in the docudrama. Sydney Newman is often credited with having created Doctor Who and made the crucial decision to hire Verity Lambert as its first producer. Call the Midwife actress Jessica Raine will play Verity Lambert; one of the first female producers at the BBC. Raine will appear in Doctor Who herself later this year.

Meanwhile actor Sacha Dhawan will play Waris Hussein the director of the first episode; An Unearthly Child. An Adventure in Space and Time has been written by Mark Gatiss who has not only appeared in Doctor Who himself but also written several episodes as well.  The drama will be directed by Terry McDonough.
