Meet the Pet Hoarders in Channel 5 show

DogChannel 5 is to air a documentary on the Great British public’s love of pets. The show promises to feature animal lovers who just can’t say no and become Pet Hoarders.

Michelle Chappell, Channel 5’s Commissioning Editor for Documentaries says,“We are a nation of pet lovers but the Pet Hoarders have taken this to another level. You know the animals have taken over when your home becomes one big food bowl come dog basket.”

For some, beloved pets become a part of the family. In the households of the Pet Hoarders, the animals have well and truly taken over. This one-off documentary delves into the lives of the people who are struggling to reduce their pet populations and follows them on a journey to discover how and why their love of animals has become a complete obsession.

Ann doesn’t live alone, her housemates include 40 cats, 50 dogs and 5 alpacas and she knows each of them by name. Marlene’s penchant for Persians sees her spending over £200 a week on food for her 43 felines. And Deborah is in the early stages of pet collecting. She’s on a mission to save as many animals as she can and has 33 of the 165 battery hens she’s saved living in her kitchen.

But this isn’t a tale of squalor, these Pet Hoarders are devoted to the wellbeing of their animals and in this one hour documentary, we gain an insight into extreme animal passions and follow the contributors as they try to rehouse some of their beloved pets.

Emma Lambent, Executive Producer at Lambent Productions adds: “It’s a fascinating subject to explore and a rich world to open up. Lambent is well known for our ability to tell hidden stories with care and sensitivity and we are thrilled to be making this for Channel 5.”
