Church pays ‘Price’ for joke Tweet

The Church of England Twitter account has come under fire for tweeting a joke concerning the recent marriage of Katie Price.

The CoE official Twitter feed made a joke involving the former model Price, once known as Jordan, and marriage equality after being challenged in a tweet on their stance concerning same sex marriage.

Twitter user @Just_Skippy tweeted the CoE asking the question,  “…what @c_of_e thinks about Katie Price marrying for 3rd time making a mockery of marriage-  yet you are against Homosexual marriage.”

“We don’t have an official policy on Katie Price. Having said that, Jordan gets quite a few mentions in the Old Testament” The church responded.

Just_Skippy tweeted back, “Oh that has made me laugh, I could almost forgive you on your stance on gay marriage but I won’t.”

Making a final reply, the CoE, ignoring the issue of same-sex marriage, stated;  “Glad we could be source of joy as well as – sadly – disquiet for you. Blessings.”

The tweet by the Church of England proved to be controversial with other Twitter users taking issue with the risqué comments made. Once again the church was called to catch up with the rest of society on LGBT issues.

Officially the religious organisation is opposed to the Coalition plans to introduce gay marriage to England and Wales. However, individuals within the CoE have called for the church to embrace the plans or risk alienating churchgoers and the LGBT community.
