EastEnders officially wins Christmas Day ratings battle

eastenders_xmas1EastEnders has come out on top in the consolidated figures for Christmas Day.

The episode, which saw Derek Branning (Jamie Foreman) suffer a fatal heart attack in the square, has settled at 11.2 million viewers – up from the 9.4 million outlined in the overnight data.

This makes the saga the most watched programme on Christmas Day 2012. Last year saw EastEnders lose out to Downton Abbey in the official data. The beeb’s answer to Downton Abbey, Call The Midwife, rose to second place after time-shifting 2.9 million to take it to 10.15 million viewers.

BBC One comedies Mrs Brown’s Boys and Miranda delivered big ratings to the channel yesterday (New Years Day) according to overnight ratings.
