PJ, who plays Doug, was last seen in the long running Channel 4 teen-soap back in December last year however as he’s set to return to the village he’s ruled out any prospect of the character reuniting with Ste, played by Kieron Richardson.
“Doug’s primary reason for returning is the business that he runs with Ste.” Brennan told Inside Soap magazine, adding, “There were a lot of dark moments for Doug last year, but the one positive thing to come out of it all was the success of the deli…. He’s certainly not pining after Ste any more, and makes it clear that he’s only interested in sorting out the business.”
When Doug and Ste meet, in episodes to be screened next week, it’ll be the first time the former couple have seen each other since their split.
Late last year storylines saw a ‘love triangle’ form between the couple and Brendan Brady, actor Emmett J. Scanlan, which came to and end when Doug left to visit his father who he discovered was suffering from Parkinson’s disease.
The actor admits the character is much more level-headed upon his return and 100 percent comfortable being who he is.
Hollyoaks airs on Channel 4 at 6.30pm weeknights
