Daniel Gillies Joins Vampire Diaries Spin-Off

Fan favourite Daniel Gillies will be taking his character of Elijah on a trip to New Orleans for the forthcoming Vampire Diaries spin-off.

The back-door pilot for the proposed spin-off, titled The Originals, has received a big boost thanks to the addition of actor Daniel Gillies. The pilot, due to air in April, will feature Gillies’ character of Elijah alongside Joseph Morgan’s character of Klaus who the spin-off will centre around.

The proposed spin-off was first announced earlier this month although The CW has long been eying a spin-off from The Vampire Diaries. When The Secret Circle was in its initial development stages it was originally to be a spin-off from The Vampire Diaries – an obvious move given both shows are based on novels by L.J Smith – but eventually it was produced as a separate entity.

Vampire Diaries show-runner Julie Plec hinted that Gillies’ character of Elijah could feature in The Originals if his schedule allowed. With Gillies’ addition to the cast it seems likely – but not yet confirmed – that actress Claire Holt will take her character of Rebekah, sister to Elijah and Klaus – across to the spin-off as well.
