Miranda: Should There Be A Fourth Series?

Last night the third series of the popular BBC comedy Miranda drew to a close and as yet there’s no word on a fourth series.

Today we’re asking our readers whether you think there should be a fourth series or not.

There is no doubt in terms of ratings Miranda’s transfer from BBC Two to BBC One, for the third season, has been a huge success and critically the new series has mostly been well received. However, that hasn’t stopped rumours circulating that perhaps the third series of Miranda Hart’s comedy will be its last.

Fans may cry out more, more more but sometimes its best to leave things on a high. Many cite Fawlty Towers as being so good because there was only 12 episodes; the same is said of Victoria Wood’s comedy Dinnerladies which ran for 16 episodes across two seasons.

Many would argue that Last of the Summer Wine should have been put out of its misery (and some viewers) a long time ago while My Family was arguably past its prime by the time the axe man came. So sometimes it is better to leave the audience wanting more than leave them wishing they hadn’t bothered tuning in.

ATV Today’s critic Queenie Le Trout argues, though, that there’s still life in Miranda. “There’s no doubt fans will want last night’s cliff-hanger resolved! I think there’s still life in Miranda yet even if its another couple of specials rather than a full series. Miranda is still very funny and entertaining and unlike other comedies it hasn’t gone on too long – yes I’m thinking of you Last of the Summer Wine”
