Claudia Grant Cast In An Adventure in Space and Time

Doctor-Who-original-logoNewcomer Claudia Grant has been cast in the Doctor Who 50th anniversary special An Adventure in Space and Time which will chronicle the sci-fi show’s creation and early years on-air.

Filming on the special, which has been written by actor and writer Mark Gatiss, has now begun. Several scenes at Television Centre have reportedly been filmed for the special. As filming gets underway another piece of casting news has been revealed. Newcomer Claudia Grant has been cast as actress Carole Ann Ford who played Susan Foreman in Doctor Who.

The news of the announcement was made by the agency that is run by Jessica Carney; the grand-daughter of William Hartnell! The announcement was as follows “Congratulations to CLAUDIA GRANT who is shooting An Adventure in Space and Time, her first TV job since graduating in the summer. The 90 minuter written by Mark Gatiss for the BBC tells the story of the genesis of Doctor Who. Claudia is filming the role of actress Carole Ann Ford who played the first Doctor’s granddaughter”

Carole Ann Ford played the character of Susan Foreman in Doctor Who between 1963 and 1964; the character was the grand-daughter of the First Doctor (William Hartnell) and pupil of school teachers Ian Chesterton (William Russell) and Barbara Wright (Jacqueline Hill). Ford left Doctor Who after just one year in the role but returned in 1983 for the 20th anniversary special The Five Doctors and has also reprised the character for several Big Finish audio plays.  As yet it has not been revealed who will be playing Russell and Hill in the 50th special.

An Adventure in Space and Time will star David Bradley as William Hartnell and Jessica Raine as Doctor Who’s first producer Verity Lambert. Brian Cox is playing BBC drama boss Sydney Newman and Sacha Dhawan as the show’s first director Waris Hussein.

An Adventure in Space and Time will air on BBC Two later this year
