Smash Returns To Low Ratings

SmashThe return of musical drama Smash to NBC last night didn’t prove to be a hit with viewers according to overnight ratings.

Smash returned on Tuesday evening for its second season premier following a revamp to boost ratings – if the first episode is anything to go by though that revamp has failed. The two-hour season premier at 9pm had 4.4 million viewers with a 1.1 18-49 rating which is considerably lower than the 3.8 18-49 rating it had for its first season premier.

At 8pm NCIS once again won the hour with total viewers and the all important 18-49 demo. The latest episode of the CBS drama series pulled in 21.4 million viewers with a 3.7 18-49 rating. ABC‘s The Taste had 5.2 million viewers with a 1.8 18-49 rating. Fox‘s double bill of Raising Home meanwhile had 3.9 million viewers with a 1.6 18-49 rating for its first episode and 4.6 million and 1.5 for its second. Betty White’s 2nd Annual 90th Birthday drew 5.9 million viewers with a 1.5 18-49 for NBC. Hart of Dixie on The CW rounded off the hour with 1.4 million viewers and a 0.6 18-49 rating.

At 9pm NCIS: Los Angeles pulled in 16.5 million viewers with a 3.1 18-49 rating winning the hour. ABC’s two hour block of The Bachelor commanded 7.7 million viewers with an 18-49 rating of 2.6. Comedy New Girl on Fox meanwhile had 4.8 million viewers with a 2.5 18-49 rating followed by The Mindy Project which pulled in 3.6 million viewers and had a 1.9 18-49 rating. On The CW medical drama Emily Owens M.D came to an end with 1.5 million viewers and a 0.4 18-49 rating.

At 10pm period piece Vegas on CBS mustered 10.2 million viewers with a 1.6 18-49 rating.
