Wednesday Ratings: American Idol Continues To Fall

Ratings for American Idol continue to fall as the 12th season of the talent competition continues on Fox.

Last night’s two-hour block of Idol attracted an average audience of 14.1 million viewers with a 4.6 18-49 rating. That’s down from last Wednesday’s instalment which attracted 15.5 million viewers overall and had an 18-49 rating of 5.4. It certainly seems as though the once ratings titan is losing its appeal for American audiences but it is still commanding hefty audiences.

At 8pm The Middle on ABC had 8.4 million viewers with a 2.8 18-49 rating followed by alien themed sitcom The Neighbors which pulled in 6.3 million with a 1.8 rating. A repeat of Person of Interest on CBS pulled in 7.2 million viewers with a 1.2 18-49 rating. NBC comedy Whitney meanwhile had 3.5 million viewers with a 1.2 18-49 rating followed by Guys with Kids which had 3.1 million viewers and a 1.2 18-49 rating. The CW‘s Arrow dipped below 3 million with 2.9 and a 1.0 18-49 rating.

ABC comedy Modern Family dropped to a season low at 9pm as its first original episode in two weeks pulled in 10 million viewers with a 3.8 18-49 rating. It was followed by Suburgatory with 5.8 million viewers giving it a 2.1 18-49 rating. Criminal Minds on CBS was ahead with total viewers pulling in 11.8 million viewers and a 2.7 18-49 rating. Veteran crime/legal drama Law & Order: Special Victims Unit pulled in 5.1 million viewers with a 1.5 18-49 rating. Long-running series Supernatural drew 2.2 million viewers to The CW at 9pm.

At 10pm CSI drew 10.9 million viewers with a 2.4 18-49 rating while NBC’s fire-fighter drama Chicago Fire pulled in 6.5 million viewers with a 1.8 18-49 rating; the freshman drama was given an extra episode order yesterday by the broadcaster. Finally ABC’s Nashville mustered 5.2 million viewers with a 1.7 18-49 rating.
