Bill Tarmey’s grandson lands Corrie cameo
Coronation Street legend Bill Tarmey’s real-life grandson has landed a cameo role in the soap.
Matt Piddington will appear as a customer in the Rovers Return next month, having promised the late Tarmey he would pursue a career in acting.
“It would have been great if me and Grandad could have been in the Rovers at the same time but I know he was looking down from heaven smiling.
“I could feel he was with me saying, ‘Go on lad I am so proud of you’. I had nerves but they felt like good nerves. I remembered all Grandad’s advice, like, ‘Less is more’ and, ‘It’s all in the eyes’.” – Piddington in the Sunday Mirror.
Alan Halsall, a close friend of Tarmey’s and who plays Tyrone Dobbs in the soap, has helped Piddington to find an agent.
Piddington has already secured further parts in ITV1 detective drama Scott & Bailey and Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks.
Tarmey played Street stalwart Jack Duckworth from 1979-2010, and passed away last November at the age of 71.
