Doctor Who Confidential And Russell Howard’s Good News Top BBC Three Poll

Doctor Who Confidential and Russell Howard’s Good News have both topped different polls to find viewers best BBC Three show.

The polls were held separately by the Radio Times and Digital Spy to find the best BBC Three to mark the digital channel’s 10th anniversary. Doctor Who Confidential won the Radio Times poll while Russell Howard’s Good News was the winner of the Digital Spy poll.

Doctor Who Confidential gave fans a behind-the-scenes look at the long-running sci-fi series and accompanied it from its revival in 2005 right through to last year when it was controversially axed by BBC Three controller Zai Bennett. The cancellation prompted an outcry from fans and over 50,000 signatures were collected for a petition to save the series. Confidential had several narrators of the years including Simon Pegg, Russell Tovey and Anthony Head.

Comedy Pram Face came second in the Radio Times poll with supernatural drama Being Human – revealed this week as ending with its current fifth season – came third. Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood was third; the John Barrowman fronted series launched on BBC Three in 2006 and was promoted to BBC Two for its second series in 2008 and then BBC One for Torchwood: Children of Earth in 2009. Russell Howard’s Good News did feature in the Radio Times poll; it came 9th.

In Digital Spy’s poll Russell Howard’s Good News was top with comedy Gavin and Stacey – which was later promoted to BBC One – came second. Being Human, Little Britain and Torchwood as well as Doctor Who Confidential as featured highly in the poll.
