BBC Two Axes The Hour
1950s newsroom drama The Hour starring Dominic West, Ben Whishaw and Romola Garai will not be returning for a third season.
The BBC Two drama revolved around fictional news-programme The Hour and the journalists who worked on it. The Hour was created by Abi Morgan who penned The Iron Lady and also starred Anna Chancellor. The first series covered the Suez Canal Crisis and has also had a conspiracy plot-line involving Soviet spies within the BBC.
A BBC spokesperson said of the axing “We loved the show but have to make hard choices to bring new shows through”. The drama was produced by Kudos who are said to be “disappointment” with the show’s cancellation as they were planning a third series.
The first season of The Hour was criticised by some for its use of modern language and was unfairly compared to the critical darling Mad Men.
