Thousands Sign Petition To Save The Hour

The-Hour-Anna-ChancellorThousands of viewers have signed a petition to save BBC Two drama The Hour after it was cancelled earlier this week by the corporation.

The 1950s newsroom drama created by Abi Morgan was officially cancelled earlier this week by the BBC after just two seasons. The corporation said of its cancellation “We loved the show but have to make hard choices to bring new shows through” while producers Kudos were said to be “disappointed” at the axe as they were planning a third series.

The cancellation is likely due to lower ratings for its second series which aired on BBC Two late last year. Fans of The Hour haven’t taken its cancellation lying down though and have launched a petition to save the journalistic drama. So far the petition has over 7000 signatures which is pretty impressive given news of The Hour‘s demise was only announced on Tuesday.

The Hour starred Dominic West, Ben Whishaw, Romola Garai, Anna Chancellor [pictured] and Oona Chaplin. The first series of the drama covered the Suez Canal Crisis and has also had a conspiracy plot-line involving Soviet spies within the BBC. The drama was met with mixed reaction from critics who unfairly compared it with the critical darling Mad Men.
