Virgin Media Awards 2013

This year Virgin Media held their first Award ceremony, which they say will become an annual event. With the public voting on the who gets the gongs it may have come as a surprise that can-do-no-wrong One Direction missed out on a award while winners include Katy Perry, Justin Bieber and Dame Maggie Smith.

In Music, Best Group was fought over between The Wanted and One Direction. In the end The Wanted took the gong with just a mere 0.08 per cent separating the two bands.

Best solo artist went to Justin Bieber who is someone who divides opinion, often said between music lovers (who don’t like him) and teens who just like him because he’s ‘lush’ (good looking). If Bieber is bad for music according to conocers of quality singers then they’ll be even more disheartened that the cutie also took away Best Album for his Believe release.

Katy Perry won an award for best music video thanks to her Wide Awake offering while Virgin Media users declared the next big star will be Nina Nesbitt.

In the television cagagory it was drama Sherlock (pictured right) that proved to be a success for the BBC with lead actor Benedict Cumberbatch beating Matt Smith’s Doctor Who into second place for Best television performer. The show also won the Television Moment of the Year. However Television Show of the Year was won by Dynamo Magician Impossible.

The channel of the year went to BBC One while Best Television Actress was given to ITV darling Dame Maggie Smith of their hit period drama Downton Abbey.

In movies it was Snow White & The Huntsman which took the best film gong with Selena Gomez being bestowed the ‘next big star’ award and the Most Wanted Movie of the year was voted in as The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. The hottest actress went to Kristen Steward while the male counterpart was won by Robert Pattinson.
