Let’s Dance sees Tim Vine and The Soap Stars make it to final

Tim Vine along with Dean Gaffney, Claire Sweeney, Natalie Cassidy and Ricky Groves aka The Soap Stars are the first two acts to boogie their way into the final of Let’s Dance for Comic Relief, after impressing viewers with their show stopping performances in the first show of the series.

Presenters Alex Jones and Steve Jones announced that viewers had voted Tim Vine through to the live final on Saturday 9th March, after his spectacular performance of Justin Timberlake’s ‘Rock Your Body’.

Runners up Dean Gaffney, Claire Sweeney, Natalie Cassidy and Ricky Groves aka The Soap Stars and Ricky Hatton then faced the three panellists, Mel Giedroyc, Tameka Empson and Bradley Walsh who were left to decide which act deserved to win the second coveted place in the final, after their performances of ‘You Can’t Stop the Beat’ from Hairspray and ‘Let Me Entertain You’, by Robbie Williams, respectively.

Tameka voted for The Soap Stars, saying “Mate, mate… it’s a real hard one. The opening of the show was great. As a routine, the storytelling – everybody played their part. There was no difference between these guys and the dancers. The ending – Let Me Entertain You – just for the glitter! You were so entertaining. I don’t know… Ricky I love you, you know. But I think for the actual… everything, I have to go for the Soap Stars”

Bradley Walsh voted for Ricky Hatton saying “I loved them both so I am going to even it up…I’m going for Ricky Hatton”

Mel cast the deciding vote, saying “I’m comfort snacking! This is too stressful. I love Ricky. Slightly scared of Ricky. Love the Soap Stars. I think in terms of the general show, and the nailing of the routine – the Soap Stars.”

The viewers’ favourite Tim Vine then closed the show with one more rendition of Rock your Body.

Tonight’s show was the first of three heats and saw Olivia Lee and Hal Cruttenden, Mark Dolan & Shaun Keaveny aka Destiny’s Dad eliminated.

There were also performances from The Script with ‘If You Could See Me Now’ and from Kimberley Walsh with her rendition of ‘Defying Gravity’ from the hit musical Wicked.

Next week, five more celebrity contestants will take to the floor in a bid to wow viewers with iconic dance routines and win a place in the final of Let’s Dance for Comic Relief.

Next week’s show will air on BBC One and BBC One HD from 7.00-8.25pm.
