Dallas to be dropped by Channel 5?

Dallas TNT / Channel 5Tabloid reports suggest the revived American drama Dallas is to be dropped by Channel 5 after little publicity of its second season saw viewing figures fall and the show shunted to a later slot.

Fans have been airing their annoyance on ATV Today over the lack of promotion the second season has had, and equal displeasure about the show being shifted on Tuesday nights from 9pm to 11pm.

“Seeming the TV guides were already printed showing Dallas at 9pm and it was moved abruptly to 11pm, is it any wonder the ratings dropped drastically. Most people didn’t even realise this and missed it. The advertising was non existent for this. Yet as I’ve said on a previous post there was a drastic increase on ratings on Dallas premier. Channel 5 should be ashamed of their actions.” Posted Si71.

Amanda added “I flicked over as usual for last nights Dallas at 9pm and it wasnt on…after crackin up for 5mins realised it had been moved to 11pm!!!! Get a grip channel 5 and put it back on at 9pm!! Some of my friends didnt even realise season two had started!!” while Jacquie said, “please put this show back on at 9pm. channel 5 you are lucky to have dallas at all….. to be honest.

“Disgusted that Dallas has been moved to 11pm slot, when a repeat has been put in its place. What’s the point it should of been left at 9pm, the ratings would of gone up! Channel 5 Controller hasn’t got a clue!” posted Deanna.

“Improve the marketing. Dallas is a fantastic show, twists and turns like a ride on the rapids. I love it and it seems so do many others. Long may the feuding of the Ewings continue.” Said another ATV Today poster.

The show returned last year with over 3 million viewers to the series one opener and when the second run began on January 28th its first episode managed a reasonable, for Channel 5, 1.24 million viewers. However overnight figures for the show were noted as being just 740,000 – before the time shift and viewers who had recorded the programme to watch later were added to the total.

Dallas cast: Larry Hagman, Linda Gray & Patrick DuffyIt put the programme eighth in Channel 5’s weekly top ten – above Australian soap Neighbours.

However there seems to be no u-turn by Channel 5 bosses over their error and with the later 11pm slot the ratings have fallen to new lows.

A Channel 5 source is quoted in The Mirror, “It is expensive to buy in for the number of viewers it’s attracting…It’s unlikely that a third season will be shown.”

The source also puts the failing ratings – down to 350,000 – on viewers becoming ‘bored’ with the soap, which first launched in 1978 and ran for 13 years.

In America the show which stars Larry Hagman, Linda Gray and Patrick Duffy has faired better with 2.4 million tuning in last week, which was an increase on previous episodes broadcast on TNT.

  • DALLAS cancelled by CHANNEL 5 at least they have some sence this dire 80s LORIMAR soap is well past its sell by date. Its sad but DALLAS is doomed about as entertaining as ELDOADO. HOLLYOAKS is better than SOUTHFORK RANCH.

    • Oh fuck off you moron!

There’s nothing wrong with the new Dallas and it ISN’T a lorimar soap anymore. Lorimar haven’t existed since the 1990s so get your facts right!

      • WELL SAID!!!!….Come on channel 5,let’s get it back on at 9pm.. what chance does it have at a crappy time of night such as 11pm..no advertisements to let us all know it was back on for season 2. i came across it by mistake.

      • I love the new Dallas! such a shame it’s not coming back, I’ve been waiting patiently……crap ch 5 for letting down loyal fans!

    • Yes, I agree. Fuck off you Moron.

Just hoping a decent channel will buy the rights, other than crapy Channel 5

  • Just read the barb viewing figures for Dallas for 17.02.13. They were 920,000 on Channel 5 plus 148,000 for Channel 5 +1. This totals 1,068,000.
That is over a million viewers & a massive increase on the 350,000 viewers, when Dallas was discarded by Channel 5 to the graveyard slot. Looks like the Ewings are staging a come back. Go get em yal !! 😉

  • dallas is great a change to all the total crap like big brother and that waste of time essex thing . put it back to 9 pm . come on channel 5 give us break .

  • It is a disgrace what channel 5 have done to Dallas I know a lot of people that think the serious is great but this station has not promoted it and put it on at a stupid time without a doubt if it was on one f the major channels it would be doing much better why didn’t BBC buy it tonight is going to be really emotional for all Dallas fans – Long live the show that is what I say I will watch it while they produce it if I can get the US version I will

  • I’m hooked on the new Dallas, it’s great viewing. Tv chiefs don’t give up on it! Even my daughter and her friends love it and they are too young to remember the original. RIP JR

  • A brilliant series-watched the original and am hooked on new Dallas. My daughter-in -law thinks it is brilliant but has to record it because of the late time slot. I hate the time but think that Dallas is the best thing on TV and it is the only thing that that I will watch religiously!!

  • New Dallas brilliant series, record it every week cos of the ridiculous time slot. C’mon channel 5. It is great! What are you playing at?

  • Dallas is the best programme on c5…why schedule it so late…it should be prime time saturdsy night

  • To the moderator and everyone at Channel 5. You can blame a drop in ratings for the 2nd series, because the release was poorly advertised. I missed the first few episodes and had to do catch up. The lead characters are excellent and this and CSI are by far your best programmes on Channel 5. Learn the philosophy from Japanese companies, allowing something to grow and flourish before making such rash decisions. As British people we like to get used to the characters first, before completely embracing them, but by placing this series on at 11pm, you have not given other viewers the chance to discover it. Put it back on at 9pm!

  • dallas is epic. i remember the first time around and couldn’t wait for the new series. i was not disappointed but many of my friends only knew about it because i told them and started watching. channel 5 have not advertised this great programme enough as no one knew it was on and then they change the time again without notice and its now too late. recording is now the only option. i would rather see good programmes on 5 than some of the crop reality shows that are for those who, frankly, need to get a life. put it back to 9pm or prime time on saturday.

  • get rid of channel 5 not dallas ,seriously which has been going longer …exactly.

  • Oh No!! Please do not give up on the new Dallas, its a great series. The problem was it was put on far to late, and lets face it channel 5 is not the most watched. Put it on ITV 2 abit earlier PLEASE.
We have to put up with rubbish like The only was is Essex, and much more trash!!! Give us a break!!!!!

  • Cannot believe after watching series 1 & 2 we wont get to see series 3 come on channel 5 put it on at a decent time and you will get more viewers I have to record it as it is on so late and everyone I work who watches it does the same

  • Don’t think anyone realises how good the programme is, producers/writers of the show are just shockingly amazing! By far the best thing on TV ever!! If it was on BBC 1 ratings would be high sky!! Every episode is just twisted just like the old episodes! I don’t think from this day anyone has come back from something in the 80’s like Dallas..absolutely outstanding! Put it back on a proper channel and time!

  • I grew up watching Dallas and I was so excited that it was coming back… and i have not been disappointed at all! It has been filled with the expected twists, turns, double dealings and double double dealings and I have loved every minute! I have just watched the last episode on the edge of my seat and I hope that the promise of this wonderful series really does return next year as announced at the end of the programme. It would be a travesty if it didn’t.

  • End of last nights final episode the anouncer said it would be back next year I hope so although I dislike the late time, as I don’t have time to watch it if I record it I tend to pass Wednesday in a haze of tiredness? Please Please do not cancel Dallas it was one of my fav programmes in the past and it has been great to see the updated series and as last nights episode ended on a cliff hanger viewers and I am one will need to know what happens next!!

  • I also grew up watching dallas. We use to drive 3 miles to our aunt to watch Dallas on a Tuesday night. Now I look forward to Tuesday night, even if i have to go to bed late. When are you bring back the next series. Thanks

  • Oh my god Dallas is easily the best thing on channel5 right now, it is so exciting and the finale was just simply the best cliff hanger!! Ha ha get it…. Anyway Channel 5 put it back on at 9 and get behind it trust me. Repeat series 2 to allow everyone go get back into it seriously dont let us down.

  • i agree give dallas back the 9pm slot its really got me hooked and i don’t know why but americans make great soaps it has the dastardly deeds and villians and good guys and plots, british soaps are so real life and depressing and they all copy each others plots

  • i think its a massive mistake, i did HOWEVER, see the advertisements for when the new episode was back on. Though they should have marketed it better. Lets face is there is NOTHING else to watch on channel 5, so people missed as not many are watching their channel as much. They should feature some other stuff that other channels have.

I stil watch dallas on channel 5 catch up website as i dont want to miss it. 11pm on weeknights is far too late to stay up for.

  • Was looking forward to dallas tonight but found it had disapeared yet again. So not happy stayed up for nothing. TV is crap just lately then the dossers are catered for with the best films and programs onat stupid oclock. What about us in the workforce? Come on channel 5 get a grip 🙁

  • I have read all these comments they all say he same thing time slot poor no promotion of the programme but yet all again say the same thing it is the best on tv of all the other dull programmes I have just learned that TNT are going to do a season 3 and are already talking of 4 what does that tell you channel 5 if you are to ever become mainstream channel you need to stick with excelent tv Dallas is just that it is brilliant I will get the 3 serious no matter what but I prefer if you showed it to a growing yes growing new dallas tv audience

  • Im trying to find out when Dallas will start again, I agree that the advertising of this fantastic programme was awful, along with the time slot being moved to 11pm, some of us have to work in the morning and sitting up till 12pm is not realistic, so come on C5 get a grip and tell me when it will be on again at a better time?????

  • after reading all the comments channel five should take note of the DULL programes it forces on veiwers like people with disfigurement programs, big brother, and the like.

if you cant afford decent progeams, time to call it a dayyyyyyy
