Nick Hurran To Direct Doctor Who 50th Special

It has been announced that Nick Hurran is to direct the 50th anniversary special of Doctor Who.

The director announced the news himself while appearing at the Glasgow Film Festival over the weekend. Filming for the 50th special will begin April and show-runner Steven Moffat is writing the script. Although the BBC has announced the 50th special will be filmed in 3D as yet no other details regarding it are known. While fans are hopeful that past actors – such as Tom Baker and David Tennant – will return for the landmark anniversary Moffat is remaining tight-lipped.

Nick Hurran has previously directed four episodes of Doctor Who. The most recent was The Angels Take Manhattan which was the final episode to feature Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill as companions Amy Pond and Rory Williams.

Hurran also directed the season seven opening episode Asylum of the Daleks and prior to that two season six episodes; The Girl Who Waited and The God Complex. Hurran’s other directing credits include the recent remake of The Prisoner, Me and Mrs Jones, Bonekickers, Virtual Sexuality and Girls’ Night.

The seventh season of Doctor Who will resume on BBC One on Saturday 30th March. It will continue on BBC America and Space, in Canada, on the same day.
