Michael Chiklis Insists CBS Won’t Axe Vegas
Actor Michael Chiklis has insisted his CBS period drama Vegas will be back for a second series.
The Tuesday evening drama stars Chiklis and Dennis Quaid and is set in 1960s Vegas. A fan of the drama questioned, on Twitter, if CBS were planning to axe the series. Chiklis replied “No….Vegas is a powerful show with a huge audience that will continue to grow over time. Thanks for watching”
Vegas was picked up by CBS for 22 episodes in October but the broadcaster later cut its order by one. The move was seen as a sign that CBS weren’t confident over the drama’s future.
Although the drama has averaged over 10 million viewers per episode it is still widely seen as a contender for the axe. That’s because its 18-49 rating, the important demo for advertisers, isn’t that high sitting around the 1.5/1.6 mark. That’s why some sites such as TV By the Numbers list Vegas as likely to be cancelled. It isn’t always the total viewer figures that matter but the 18-49 rating a prime example being the axed NBC drama Harry’s Law.
In the UK Vegas airs on Sky Atlantic on Thursday evenings.
