Coronation-Street-mediumITV has revealed that Waterloo Road actress Katie McGlynn has joined the cast of Coronation Street.

McGlynn joined Waterloo Road as Scout in 2011, the then 17-year-old juggled her education – sitting A-Levels – while recording for the BBC school-based drama which at the time was recorded in the North West, it has since relocated to Scotland.

“I always cringe when I see myself on TV… My parents are really proud of me and everyone’s been really excited to see me.” Katie told the Manchester Evening News at the time of her Waterloo Road debut.

In ITV’s top rated saga she’ll be playing the role of Beth Tinker’s niece, Sinead, who may just be what fellow resident Chesney is looking for. As Katy struggles to resist the temptation of smooth talking Ryan, Chesney faces a heart-breaking few months. Will new girl Sinead be his light at the end of the tunnel?

“From the age of 11, it was evident that Katie had the talent to pursue a professional acting career. As an A-level drama student, one couldn’t ask for a more dedicated, hard-working sixth former.

“Katie had always listened carefully to advice and is a great team player. She’s a wonderful, cheerful young lady who has succeeded in balancing tough academic study with filming commitments brilliantly. She has even given up some of her time to support our younger pupils with their GCSE performing arts work. Katie’s TV success is no surprise to me. ” – Peter Carroll, head of drama at Wardle High School, where Katie studied, told Manchester Evening News in 2011
