Primeval: New World Axed

Primeval-New-WorldThe Canadian Primeval spin-off has been axed after just one series but producers are hoping to find another broadcaster.

The news of the show’s cancellation was announced via its official Twitter feed with the tweet “It’s true: @SPACEchannel has decided to not renew #PrimevalNewWorld. We are in talks with other international broadcasters — stay tuned!”

Primeval: New World has failed to find a big enough audience in Canada for the show to continue on Space. The spin-off stars Sara Canning (of The Vampire Diaries) and Niall Matter. Andrew Lee Potts reprised his role of Connor Temple from the UK series to launch the spin-off.

Primeval: New World was launched and now axed as the future of the ITV series remains in doubt. In all likelihood it too has been axed but there has been no official confirmation as yet on that front.

In the UK Primeval: New World airs on digital station Watch which stepped in several years ago when Primeval was originally axed by ITV. Watch and other parties signed a co-production deal which saw the dinosaur drama return for a fourth and fifth season.

So with the cancellation of the spin-off Watch could very well step in again to save the Canadian drama. Another more rumour though more likely to do the rounds will be Netflix stepping in – that rumour often pops up when a series is cancelled.
