Coronation Street’s Paul Kershaw axed from soap

Coronation-Street-mediumCoronation Street bosses have decided to axe the character of Paul Kershaw from the ITV soap.

Fireman Paul made his first Weatherfield appearance in 2010 attending to casualties who were trapped following the tram crash. He returned to the soap the following year and struck up a romance with Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver) but things were complicated as Paul was still married to wife Lesley who was suffering with Alzheimers.

He will make his final appearance later this year when actor Tony Hirst’s contract comes to an end as writers apparently felt they had done everything they could with the character.

The Sunday Mirror reports that Paul will be killed off although it is unknown whether his death is related to the upcoming fire at the Rovers Return.

It was recently reported that Natalie Gumede, who has played the role of Kirsty Soames since 2011, will be leaving the ITV1 soap, while headteacher Brian Packham, actor Peter Gunn, has also been axed from the soap.
