Victoria Principal Rules Out Dallas Return
Victoria Principal has once again ruled out returning to the oil and scandal drama Dallas.
“Since the inception of Dallas, the creators and fans around the world have referred to Bobby (Patrick Duffy) and Pam as the Romeo & Juliet of Dallas – I could not agree more,” the statement reads. And since the original author of this scenario, William Shakespeare, felt compelled to make theirs a tragic love story, of epic and unforgettable deathly loss, I think I shall respect that very successful example, and leave the legacy of Bobby & Pam’s tragic love story, undisturbed and intact.” – Victoria Principle
The actress played Pamela Barnes Ewing in Dallas from the 1978 mini-series through to the tenth season finale, Fall of the House of Ewing, in 1987. The character was involved in a Romeo and Juliet style love story/marriage with Bobby Ewing (Patrick Duffy) much to the disdain of his brother J.R (Larry Hagman) and her brother Cliff Barnes (Ken Kercheval).
Since the death of actor Larry Hagman speculation has been rife that Principal could reprise her iconic role. The actress has now denied the rumours.
Although Principal bowed out as Pamela in 1987 the character did briefly return played by a look-a-like actress. In TNT’s revival of Dallas the character of Pamela Ewing has been mentioned several times recently and producers have teased fans will find out what happened to the character following her departure from Southfork – and rumour has it J.R Ewing was deeply involved in Pam’s whereabouts over the subsequent years.
While Victoria Principal has ruled out returning it is still possible the character of Pamela Barnes Ewing may return with another actress in the role. Her statement continued referring to her character’s on-screen exit in 1987;
“When I filmed Pam’s fatal car accident, for me that was the punctuation mark on my role as Pam. I cannot be held responsible for any choices made by producers once I left Dallas, but I do take responsibility for my decision, not to risk tarnishing Bobby & Pam’s love story, with a desperate reappearance. I made this decision a long time ago with a loving and respectful heart for Dallas, Bobby & Pam and all faithful fans.” – Victoria Principal
Nice to see she’s grateful to the show that made her famous.
Recast her, honestly!
She could have had so much cosmetic surgery she’d look like she belongs in Knots Landing.
Shame she won’t go back. “There is always one” as my mother says.
