ITV to explore American gun culture

American-FlagITV’s Tonight programme is to take a look into America’s fascination with guns.

Three months on following the Sandy Hook elementary school shooting which shocked America and the world, ITV News Washington correspondent Robert Moore travels across the vast country exploring the love of guns in a nation which has been tainted by gun violence in recent times.

On 14th December 2012, gunman Adam Lanza entered the Sandy Hook Elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut  killing 20 children aged between 5 and 6, along with six adults. The shooting prompted the press at the time to descend on the small community and started heated discussions about America’s obsession with guns.

Robert Moore talks to gun owners about why they have them and why they would never give them up. And he meets families who have suffered the consequences of guns being so ingrained in society. The programme features an extraordinary interview with a father whose son accidentally shot his little sister.
