Coronation Street triumphs at RTS awards

ITV soap Coronation Street saw off competition from EastEnders and Hollyoaks to take home the award for best soap at last night’s Royal Television Society programme awards.

Cast members from the long-running serial including Kym Marsh and Natalie Gumede were there to collect their award at the ceremony held at Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

It continues a successful year for the soap which also triumphed at this year’s National Television Awards in January.

Other winners of the evening include BBC One dramas Good Cop and Sherlock who won ‘Best Drama Serial’ and ‘Best Drama Series’ respectively, while the London 2012 Olympics were awarded in the ‘Live Event’ category, and Olivia Coleman and Sean Bean picked up acting gongs for their roles in Accused.
