Christopher Eccleston Doctor Who 50th Appearance rumbles on
Is anyone really bothered whether Christopher Eccleston will reprise his role as the Ninth Doctor? It seems most fans are more than happy with David Tennant returning to mark the 50th anniversary since the first episode. However the Daily StarĀ have suggested Eccleston was due to appear – but now he’s not.
Eccleston appeared for only one season in 2005, which I suppose is slightly longer than the one film Paul Mccann made, so isn’t really a major timelord in the scheme of things. Still the speculation on whether he would or wouldn’t reprise his role has filled tabloid paper inches for some time.
The bastion of truth and honesty which is the Daily Star today claimed that Eccleston had been signed up to appear in the 50th special episode of Doctor Who, which is being filmed in 3D for pure pleasure of whoians.
The paper continues to state that at the last minute however Eccleston changed his mind and now isn’t donning the leather coat and cheesy grin one last time. If it was true, you’d think there would have been some sort of wrangling over agreed contracts and the like, which is why the BBC press office today said it wasn’t true.
The beeb note that while Christopher Eccleston had been approached by show bosses, he decided against appearing sometime before production began on the special which will see David Tennant at the tenth doctor and Billie Piper as Rose return.
It remains to be seen whether Eccleston does appear or not of course, as the corporation are keeping the plot a closely guarded secret.

DOCTOR WHO is 50 cant the BBC even try to do THE ELEVEN DOCTORS as they did THE FIVE DOCTORS in 1983 and even though TOM BAKER didn’t do it it still was and id say a great DOCTOR WHO story so stop messing about get ALL the surviving doctors back and WILLIAM HARTNELL, PATRICK TROUGHTON and JON PERTWEE can be computer generated which is something that couldn’t be done in 1983 so similar to that advert with BOB MONKHOUSE in long after the GREAT LEGEND OF ATV was no longer with us.
Actually Christopher Eccleston is the best doctor after Tom Baker. He brought sophistication and a varied character to the role with the the help of the highly-talented Russell T Davies. For me Tennant and Smith have been a little forgettable. The fact that no classic doctor or companion and no Eccleston or John Barrowman are taking part is appalling especially as they were all willing. This anniversary is going to be a disaster and Moffatt will end up being fired.
