Waterloo Road exit for Tom Clarkson
Waterloo Road bosses have confirmed the departure of English teacher Tom Clarkson from the show.
The character, portrayed by Jason Done, has been a regular fixture in the school drama since its launch in 2006 and is one of only two original cast members that remain, the other being Philip Martin Brown who plays Grantly Bugden but who is also leaving the series.
Done has already filmed his final scenes, to air later this year and bosses have promised that Tom will bow out with a memorable storyline.
Speaking to Digital Spy, Executive Producer Cameron Roach revealed: “We will be sorry to see Tom Clarkson leave Waterloo Road, but we promise a finale that can’t be missed, in order that we sent this much loved character off in style.
“We wish Jason all the best for the future and thank him wholeheartedly for the energy and commitment he has given the role. He has been a big part of the Waterloo Road story.”
Done said: “A massive thank you to everyone who’s been involved in the making of Waterloo Road. I’m very proud of what we have achieved and the laughter we have shared.”
Bosses have also confirmed the departures of Alec Newman and Daniela Denby-Ashe from their roles as school head Michael Byrne and businesswoman Lorraine Donnegan.
OMG!
There’ll be nobody left in it at this rate.
At least Clarkson and Budgen were a throwback to the origins of the show following its move to Scotland.
They will be missed.
The move to Scotland seems to have had its effect.
