Michelle Collins gets lippy on Twitter
The former EastEnders actress, currently appearing in Coronation Street, suggested one current actress on the BBC One London-set soap had a ‘ridiculous lip job’.
Michelle Collins is most famous for playing cockney Cindy Beale in EastEnders, however joined ITV’s Manchester based Coronation Street in 2011. Her arrival as Stella Price was met with a mixed reception, mainly down to her odd Yorkshire accent, more suited to Emmerdale Farm.
She also became nicknamed ‘Shoehorned Stella’ due to being thrust into so many plots in order to try and make the character likeable, including being involved with the final storyline of iconic character Betty Williams following the death of actress Betty Driver 18 months ago – who she never worked alongside on screen.
The latest real life drama follows a twitter comment earlier this week by Collins which noted,
“Why do actresses have ridiculous lip jobs done??? …Watched Easties tonight!! Was shocked! Big lips just seem to take over the screen! Too distracting!”
The tweets failed to note which current EastEnders star was being referred to, but viewers assumed it was directed at Kierston Wareing who is seen as the character of Kirsty Branning in the Walford saga.
Following the comments she was inundated with rebukes from fellow tweeters, despite noting that she was only making a general observation.
“You’d think she’d know better,” says our telly critic Queenie, “she was far from happy when people were tweeting taking the p**s out of her dodgy northern accent. It’s a shame Betty didn’t get a lovely send off like JR in Dallas, instead we had Stella rummaging through her knicker drawer.”
It’s not the first time a ‘trout pout’ has caused a fuss in the world of soap opera, actress Lynne Perrie – who had played opinionated Ivy Brennan since 1971 – was reportedly sacked from Coronation Street in 1994 when she underwent a lip enhancement operation without telling ITV Granada bosses.
