Three More Actors Rule Out Doctor Who Returns

Three former Doctor Who actors have stated they will not be appearing in the 50th anniversary special.

Filming on the special to mark the landmark anniversary is currently taking place. Doctor Who fans are hoping the anniversary special will reunite as many former Doctor’s as possible ala the 10th anniversary story (The Three Doctors) and the 20th anniversary story (The Five Doctors). However, it appears as though those hopes may about to be dashed as three former Doctor’s announce they will not be taking part.

Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy and Paul McGann are currently in Australia attending conventions and they were quizzed about the 50th anniversary during an appearance on the chat-show Mornings. Baker stated “They’re actually making it now. So the likelihood is, as we’re sitting here with you, that [we won’t be doing it].”

Sylvester McCoy acknowledged that fans want all the surviving doctor’s involved but seemingly that is not going to happen “All the fan-bases all over the world believe that, but not the producers at the BBC” the actor said when host David Campbell remarked it was “sad” the actors would not be involved as he thought “everyone should be involved”.

All three actors have previously stated they would be willing to return for the 50th anniversary as have Tom Baker and Peter Davison. Only Christopher Eccleston, who played the Doctor for a single season in 2005, has consistently stated he is unwillingly to return.

David Tennant and Billie Piper have already been confirmed as returning for the occasion. In the past week it has also been revealed that Jemma Redgrave will reprise her role of Kate Stewart, daughter of Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart played by the late Nicholas Courtney, for the special.

The special edition of Doctor Who will also star John Hurt and Joanna Page. Fans of he cult saga shouldn’t completely rule out appearances by former Doctor’s or companions just yet – after all earlier this year Billie Piper was playing down reports she would appear in the anniversary story.
