Australia’s Got Talent changes Spice

Following its switch from the Seven Network to Channel Nine Australia’s Got Talent has also had to switch its Scary Spice for a more Ginger variety.

The series, based on ITV’s original version, hit the aussie airwaves back in February 2007 with Dannii Minogue, Tom Burlinson and Red Symons acting as judges.

There’s been a few changes to the judges line up since then with most recently Scary Spice herself – Melanie Brown dishing out her views on the talented and talentless before her.

However due to a contract between Network Seven and Mel B, where she remains as a judge on Australia’s version of singing contest The X Factor, the former Spice Girl can’t appear on the rival Channel Nine network.

Today the broadcaster revealed they’d traded in one old spice for another with Ginger, aka Geri Halliwell, stepping into the scary seat.

She told Channel Nine, “Shows like that are brilliant and I love the opportunity they give to normal, everyday people,” she said, adding, “Plus, I get to come to Australia.”

Halliwell, who recently as part of a dare by Meb B, sung in a pub to a bemused none impressed crowd, noted she’ll not be the female Simon Cowell.

“I think it’s unnecessary to be mean for the sake of being mean, but I do believe you have to be truthful, but with love,” she noted.

Earlier this year Dawn French, Timomatic and Kyle Sandilands were confirmed as the judging panel for the new look Channel 9 series.

Dawn French said of her role “I already know Australia’s got talent but can’t wait to see it myself – I’m gagging for it.”

Australia’s Got Talent airs its seventh series for the first time on Channel Nine later this year.

Not everyone is impressed, a comment to Sky News noted:

“Makes sense – one completely talentless celebrity judging a bunch of other talentless celebrity wannabe’s!”
