Corrie villain Karl Munro to depart soap

Coronation Street star John Michie will bow out from the role of Karl Munro later this year, tabloid reports have suggested.

Coronation Street, Stella and Carl

Michie who has played the villainous character since 2011 has just signed a new six month contract in order to give his character’s storyline a proper conclusion, according to the Daily Star.

In recent weeks viewers have watched Karl scheme to cover up the fact he started the Rovers blaze and killed Sunita Alahan (Shobna Gulati), so news of the character’s exit is unlikely to come as a shock to fans of the ITV1 soap.

The pub blaze has been one of the show’s biggest storylines of 2013 to date and show bosses are reportedly planning a “dramatic ending” for the storyline.

Meanwhile, the Daily Star also reports that Sunita’s former partner Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin) will be threatened by Karl after Dev starts to realise that Sunita may have been framed for the Rovers blaze.

  • What’s the likelihood that the writers decide to kill off the character of Karl?
