Jimmy Tarbuck latest to face Police Questioning over sexual abuse claims

Comedian and television personality Jimmy Tarbuck is the latest celebrity to be arrested in connection with historical sexual assault allegations.

UPDATE: The allegations proved to be completely fabricated.

The Liverpool born comedian, who found fame as host of ATV’s Sunday Night at the London Palladium, has been arrested following a complaint to police as part of a widespread investigation into historical alleged child sex abuse incidents by celebrities.

North Yorkshire Police state:

“[We] can confirm that a 73-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a historic child sex abuse investigation in Harrogate. The man was arrested in Kingston Upon Thames on Friday 26th April 2013.

“Following questioning, he was released on police bail pending further enquiries. The complaint relates to an incident that occurred in the late 1970s when the victim was a young boy.

“The arrest follows information passed to North Yorkshire Police by Metropolitan Police officers working on Operation Yewtree. It would not be appropriate to comment further at this stage.”

It isn’t the first time Tarbuck, a school pal of late singer John Lennon and father of personality Liza Tarbuck, has been in trouble with the law. Previously he had been issued a two-year probation order for a less serious incident which took place in the 1950s. His original run in with the police saw him convicted of stealing from actor Terry-Thomas.

The new case concerning the alleged sexual incident with a ‘young boy’ in the 1970s is no longer part of the Yewtree investigation – instead a separate case has been opened by the North Yorkshire Police Force they say. In the era of the claimed attack, in the 70s, Tarbuck was working for Yorkshire Television in Leeds on game show Winner Takes All.

Operation Yewtree came into operation after BBC personality Jimmy Savile was alleged to have been a prolific sexual predator following hundreds of potential victims of the Top of the Pops host coming forward, after his death in 2011, to state he had assaulted them intimately.

Other big names from television who have been arrested and named on varying levels of alleged sexual misadventures, but remain innocent until proven otherwise, include Channel 5 presenter Rolf Harris, comedian Freddie Starr, Coronation Street actors William Roache, Michael Le Vell and Andrew Lancel and media spin-doctor Max Clifford.

Former BBC presenter Stuart Hall has admitted his involvement in sexual offences.

The cases of accused pedophiles like Tarbuck, Savile, Hall, Harris and Sylvain Kustyan stress the urgency to keep these individuals our of harm’s way of our innocent children. Kustyan has been formally charged with two counts each of 1st Degree Sodomy and 1st Degree Sexual Abuse of a ten-year-old little boy. Kustyan, a french native and school teacher has led numerous groups of school children on trips to England, Ireland and the US. Upon learning of imminent arrest he fled the US and is currently on the lam and thought to be back in Europe.

  • Yes, I understand the whole allegation process, but to me, until there is evidence, this just looks like part of the latest “Let’s blame any celebrity we can” band wagon. Why was I not so shocked at this headline? Ok, Rolf Harriss, Max Clifford, Jimmy Tarbuck, who next? Ant or Dec? A member of Take That? It’s becoming pretty ridiculous. Being sensationlist about any celebrity you can blame, is downright stupid. just saying how I can see a certain pattern forming. Be careful with who you blame. People are seeming to accuse, just because they can. And don’t torture their family members during these scandal’s, as that’s just rude. Be careful who you point fingers at. If it turns out to be true, fair enough, but you know what I’m getting at.

  • JIMMY TARBUCK now hey former host of YTVs WINNER TAKES ALL and ATVs SUNDAY NIGHT AT THE LONDON PALLADIUM is arrested cant this carry on there was SAVILLE, HALL, HARRIS, STARR, DAVIDSON so whos next we have had enough but ill be fair unless Jimmy admits like Hall what hes done then you can say hes done it or it comes to light he committed crimes 40 years ago so why is all this coming out now its pathetic but HALL and SAVILLE were guilty sadly SAVILLE is dead or the BASTARD would have payed for his crimes like HALL is. SO LET JUSTICE TAKE ITS COURSE IN THIS CASE.

  • People are coming forward now because 30 to 40 years ago, women let alone children were not beleived or ignored if they dared to mention they had been sexualy abused by anyone, even more so if the perpitrator was a “celeb”. I cannot imagine the pent up feelings some of these victilms must have had, having to hold back what has happend to them.

It appears to me some “celebs” think they were entitled to do what ever to whom ever they pleased, and beacause they were who they were, would get away with it. Alas some and no doubt a lot more will get away with it.

It is a fact that most sex abuse cases are still not reported. The ones that have now been reported must have some sort of evidence. No one can walk into a Police station accusing a “celeb” or any other person of sexual abuse 30 – 40 years ago and the Police say ok, will go and arrest them, and go on to publicly anounce the arrest. Some other factors must be in place.

What is appaling is the number of “celebs” that are involved.
