Randy Jackson quits American Idol

American-Idol-Series-12Randy Jackson (pictured far right) has revealed he is leaving American Idol after 12 series.

The current series, which ends in a few weeks, will be the last to feature Jackson who was one of the original judges on the show. He made his debut alongside Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell on American Idol in 2002.

Speaking to E! News, the music producer said he wants to focus on other business ventures.

“To put all of the speculation to the rest, after 12 years of judging on American Idol I have decided it is time to leave after this season.”

I am very proud of how we forever changed television and the music industry. It’s been a life changing opportunity but I am looking forward to focusing on my company Dream Merchant 21 and other business ventures.” – Randy Jackson

Press speculation suggests that all four judges could have been replaced next year as the show’s producers look to save the show from declining ratings. Mariah Carey, Keith Urban, Nicki Minaj and Randy Jackson make-up the judging panel this series.
