Olivia Colman, Sheridan Smith among winners at Bafta TV award

We take a look at the winners of the BAFTA Television Awards 2013.

Olivia Colman was the star of the night picking up two awards. Her first award of the night was Supporting Actress for her role in Accused (Mo’s Story). Her fruity language at winning was matched once again when she took to the stage to pick up the award for Female Performance in a Comedy Programme for her portrayal in Twenty Twelve.

The London Olympic comedy Twenty Twelve picked up the award for Best Situation Comedy. Also in the genre of comedy, The Revolution Will Be Televised won  Best Comedy Programme and Steve Coogan picked up a gong for Male Performance in a Comedy for his Sky programme Welcome to the Places of My Life.

Sheridan Smith burst into tears as she was revealed to be the winner of the Leading Actress award for her role as Mrs Biggs. Leading Actor award went to Ben Whishaw who led the way in Richard II (The Hollow Crown). Supporting Actor also had a royal theme as the award was given to Simon Russell Beale for Henry VI Part 2.

Graham Norton, who hosted the ceremony this evening, won a BAFTA for his Friday night chat show being named Best Entertainment Programme. He failed to win Entertainment Performance award which went to Alan Carr (pictured below).

The shock of the night could be awarded to the Radio Times Audience Award. The public voted Game of Thrones the winner, ahead of the Olympic Opening Ceremony and The Great British Bake Off. The Olympics also lost out in the Sport and Event award, however the Paralympics, screened on Channel 4, won for its coverage.
