Dan Snow to front airport show from Heathrow

BBC Two has been given ‘unprecedented’ access to Heathrow Airport for an upcoming live series into airports.

Heathrow

The live broadcast over four nights from Heathrow airport will feature Dan Snow coming live from the air traffic control tower at Heathrow – one of the busiest in the world. Snow will be joined by Dallas Campbell and Anita Rani for a mix of live and pre-recorded segments exploring all areas of the airport.

Airport Live, commissioned by BBC Two controller Janice Hadlow, will reveal the daily work that goes into running the UK’s busiest airport which covers five square miles. The programme will also give viewers a look at how the world’s largest passenger jet, the A380, is flown.

Dan Snow says that the live week will give viewers and travellers an insight into the “web of processes all precisely managed to maintain equilibrium.”

“Over four nights we’ll get the chance to see how it all works. We’ll take a look at the complex choreography of air traffic control, learn to fly the world’s largest passenger jet, the A380, and discover how weather plays a crucial role in keeping the whole operation running smoothly. Airport Live will be a thrilling journey through the skies and a definitive account of modern air travel.” – Dan Snow

Airport Live follows in the same vein as previous live event programmes such as Volcano Live and Stargazing Live. To accompany the programme, BBC Learning Zone will present a series of short films exploring careers at the airport.
