Deborah Turness to leave ITN for NBC
ITN, the producers of ITV News, have confirmed that Deborah Turness is leaving to take up a new position in America with NBC.
Deborah was appointed editor of ITV News in 2004 making her the youngest and first female in that position at ITV News. She will remain with ITN until July as ITN and ITV search for a replacement. Current Channel 5 News editor Geoff Hill is widely tipped to be her successor.
Moving to New York, Deborah Turness will become President of NBC News. The appointment of Turness comes as NBC News struggles to maintain its number one position among the networks. As NBC President, she will oversee key programmes such as NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams and the Today show.
During her time overseeing ITV News, they have won several awards and secured major scoops – such as the only television interview with Prince William and Catherine Middleton on their engagement.
ITN CEO John Hardie said Deborah “epitomises everything that is best about ITN” adding “I’m delighted for her as she takes up one of the biggest jobs in TV news with our partners at NBC.”
