Joan Collins To Appear In Benidorm

Joan Collins is to guest star in the sixth series of ITV comedy Benidorm.

The actress revealed her role via the social networking site Twitter where she wrote “Looking forward to going to Spain to be in #Benidorm. And I’m playing Crystal, yes I am!! But not the Dynasty one”

Collins is still best remembered for her role of Alexis Morrell-Carrington-Colby-Dexter in the 1980s super-soap Dynasty despite the series having ended over twenty years ago. Collins made her debut in the opening episode of its second series and is credited with turning around the fortunes of the drama.

The bitchy and scheming Alexis was placed at the centre of the soaps plots and cat-fights. The ex-wife of patriarch Blake Carrington (John Forsythe) took an instant dislike to his new wife Krystal (Linda Evans). Over the course of Dynasty, the characters of Krystal and Alexis had several cat-fights though Alexis also ended up in scraps with Blake’s half-sister Dominique (Diahann Carroll) and her cousin Sable (Stephanie Beacham) amongst others.

Following the demise of Dynasty in 1981 Collins has made a number of guest appearances in various television shows. In 2002 she appeared in the now defunct CBS soap opera Guiding Light and in 2010 appeared in the German soap Verbotene Liebe which roughly translate as Forbidden Love; the series is based on the 1980s Australian drama Sons and Daughters created by Reg Watson.

In 2006 Collins joined the cast of Footballers’ Wives for several episodes during its final series; the actress played Eva De Wolffe who locked horns with the drama’s own resident bitch Tanya Turner (Zoe Lucker) a character undeniable inspired by Alexis Carrington.

The sixth season of Benidorm will also feature guest star Ken Morley who played supermarket manager Reg Holdsworth in Coronation Street in the 1990s. Morley’s appearance in Benidorm will see him reunited with his former Corrie co-star Sherrie Hewson who played his on-screen wife Maureen in the Granada soap; Hewson is a regular cast member of the ITV comedy.
